The early Earth, in a molten state and incessantly bombarded by planetesimals, themselves glowing from accretion and impacts. The molten Earth is a high res 3D sphere, super basic(!), and the texture map is multiple layers of custom dirt maps in Photoshop, building up the complex colour pattern, and then a greyscale version used for the emission map. Similar approach for the planetesimals, but simpler. Modelled and rendered in Lightwave3D, comped in Photoshop.
