The Roman Fortress at Chester

Take 27 has done a great deal of work on Roman Chester, and as mentioned on the Episode 4 introduction page there will be a website dedicated to this in the summer of 2007.

But for 'Lost Treasures' we needed to convey a sense of the sheer scale of the fortress, as ever in just a few seconds of screen time. So we chose to fly the camera along the western rampart, looking east across the buildings and into an early morning sun. This shot utilises our medium-resolution model, which is good for fast moving middle-distance shots like this.

What separates Episode 4 from some of the other stories in 'Lost Treasures' is, as we said, scale, and the screengrab below will hint at the amount of interpretation and modelling we have to do to arrive at just the medium-resolution fortress model.

You can see near the top on the left is the camera at the end of its track, with the path marked out in purple to the right.

If you run your mouse cursor over the image, a handful of landmarks will appear so you can get your bearings.

But on this subject I am afraid we shall leave it here for now, except to say go to this page and bookmark the site, if you are interested in Roman Chester, and watch for announcements.
