Microscopic robots, 'nanobots', repairing a damaged retina.
Nanotechnology has many uses, amongst them delicate
micro-surgery procedures which would otherwise be impossible.
Once a procedure is complete, a signal is sent which enables
the nanobots to decompose, the remains being inert and in this case
passing out of the body through the eye's natural 'cleaning' processes.
Research into nanotechnology began in earnest in
the late Twentieth Century.
